Colon Cleansing Scams

colon-cleanse.jpg
You may have seen the disturbing pictures of fecal matter, dangling by a stick, plastered all over colon cleansing websites. Colon cleansing has a lot of believers if a quick search on the internet is any judge. At the very least it shows that it is a thriving business. Also known as bowel cleansing, colonic irrigation, high colonic, and colonic hydrotherapy, colon cleansing advocates claim it promotes health by removing toxins and pathogens from the colon, based on the belief that intestinal waste can poison the body and is a major contributor to many diseases.

Other than relieving you temporarily from constipation, frankly there are no health benefits to having a tube inserted up your rectum and your colon flushed with concoctions of water, herbs, enzymes or even coffee. Colonic irrigation is not a completely benign procedure and may lead to electrolyte imbalance, nausea, vomiting, heart failure as well as colon perforation. Be aware that there are case reports of colon infections caused by infected equipment, including 36 patients who contracted Amebiasis at a Colorado clinic in 1980. Ten of these patients required surgical removal of their colon, and six died.

If you are concerned about the health of your colon get more fiber in your diet from fruits and veggies, and stay away from refined products… and a rectal tube!

Colon cleansing is not very good. If you look at research papers, you can find out easily. What majority of study results are. Go Google.scholar to check.
